The Journey Begins

“Life begins at the end of your comfort zone.” – Neale Donald Walsch

What is your comfort zone? Have you ever tested its bounds?

Life is an interesting thing. We all have the same essential needs: air, food, water, etc., but it’s the sum of our experiences that shape us into the people we are today. Some people live quietly in the same towns they grew up in while others travel the world seeking adventures and the unknown. There is no right or wrong way, it is up to us to decide how we live our lives. We owe it to ourselves to push the bounds of our comfort zone whether it is talking to that boy or girl in class, traveling to a new state or country, or even jumping out of a plane with a parachute strapped to your back.

I have chosen adventures into the unknown with my dog Milo. Over the past year I have embarked on a new chapter, RV life. I moved into my RV, an Ember 221MSL, in August 2023. I was living in Texas at the time and have since journeyed all the way up to Bar Harbor, Maine and down to Miami, Florida.

Have I RVed in the past? Kinda, I spent a couple summers with my aunt and uncle as they RVed to National Parks as a kid.

Have I towed anything before? No.

Have I driven a truck before? Kinda, I would borrow my dad’s every once in a while, when living in Texas.

How do you make money? I am lucky to have a full time job that allows me to work remote.

During COVID I found myself sitting in an apartment in Baton Rouge, Louisiana asking myself: Why am I sitting in my apartment in a city where I know only a handful of people? What do I want out of my life? The answer: To travel. I want to see the world starting with the parts of the United States that I have never seen before.

Financially, the easiest way to do this was to buy an RV, but paying for an RV, storage for the RV and rent didn’t make much sense. So, moving into it made the most sense as long as my job would allow it. Leaving the job to one side, let the research commence (that will be a blog post in and of itself).

I will admit that this decision was scary and there have been nights where I have questioned my decision, but after a year I still find my decision to be the right one for me and can’t wait to see where this adventure takes me in the future. I will be starting a new series of blogs focusing on different aspects of RV life or of the places I have been.

All I can say for the folks reading this thinking it may be something they are interested in is to not let fear of the unknown keep you from trying. You never know what the future holds and time moves faster as you get older, so if there is something you want in life whether it is RVing or something else do let fear hold you back. Just try, be smart and do your research, but go for it!

Note: I don’t claim to be an expert after spending one year on the road, but I have gathered knowledge and experience that I want to record and share for those interested. If there is something specific you would like me to cover please leave it in a comment!
