Be the Change

“Be the change you want to see in the world.” -Ghandi

Live by example. If you want to see more acceptance towards others, if you want to see trust between neighbors, or something else. The first step to seeing change is to make a change in your own life. Recognize the change you want to see and start with yourself or as Michael Jackson would say,

“I’m starting with the man in the mirror
I’m asking him to change his ways
And no message could have been any clearer
If you want to make the world a better place
(If you want to make the world a better place)
Take a look at yourself, and then make a change” – Man in the Mirror

These changes can never be forced on other people. You can choose to make a change and encourage others to do the same, but they have to make that choice on their own. It can be frustrating, but the best we can do is live our best life in the way we would wish people to emulate. These changes can be big or small it is just important that we start to make them.

I would like to see more people accepting to others that are different from us. Tolerant to differences, but intolerant to intolerance. So I work to be accepting of others and try to use my knowledge and experience to teach others. I also work to learn about cultures, people, and other beliefs that are different from my own.

Positive steps for positive changes. While on this road to change it may be laden with setbacks, but it is important to keep going. You may go two steps forward and one step back, or two steps forward and three back. The important thing is to keep going. Keep your end goals in mind and continue to make changes. Life is like a roller coaster, full of ups and downs, and it is important to remember that. We can only hope that by living our best lives and making positive changes we can influence others to do the same.

“Life is a journey, not a destination.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson
