This past week was filled with reminders that as Ferris Bueller famously states, “Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while you could miss it.”
We only have a short time on this Earth and only one life in which to live. I think some of us forget this from time to time, I know I do. We think we have all the time in the world that we will always have an opportunity to see someone again or do something over again. This isn’t always true. I wish this wasn’t so, I wish we knew when the last time was that we were going to do something or talk with someone, but that is just not how life works.
So we need to seize this life with both hands and live the crap out of it. Appreciate the opportunities you are given (make the most of them), strive to make connections, and take chances. The only limits to your life are the ones you place on yourself, so it is up to you to decide what those are. Approach the world with arms stretched wide, but remember where you came from and appreciate your roots. You have an impact on the world around you even if you don’t immediately see it.
What impact do you want to have? What is the impression you leave with people? Are you living the life you want to be living?
If you don’t like the answer to these questions when you ask them of yourself then change something. Humans are born to grow and change, so it is ok to examine your life and find room for improvement or change. When you make a change make sure it has a positive impact on your life and make sure the people you care about know how you feel about them. Changes don’t have to be immediate and most likely won’t be. Just keep working at it, every little step or forward movement counts.
